Where the Waterberg
meets world-class hunting

Okangawa Hunting Safaris is a family-run hunting farm in the Okahandja district of central Namibia, in the shadow of the Omatako Mountains. The land has been in the family since the 1940s: Andries Pretorius came home from the Second World War and built Thorn Trees up as a cattle ranch, his son Peter grew it, and in 2012 Andrew and Anneke Campbell returned from South Africa to run it. Hunting grew alongside the cattle, and Okangawa Farming & Hunting Safaris was registered as a hunting business in 2016. Andrew is a registered Namibian professional hunter and a NAPHA member, has guided since 2019, and speaks English, Afrikaans and German. When you book, you deal with him directly, and he is the one beside you on the stalk. One hunting party at a time, up to eight guests: the guides, the camp and the kitchen are there for your group only. Hunters rate Okangawa 4.8 on Google, and one of them calls it his home away from home. THE HUNTING Fair chase, on foot, with no guarantees. Okangawa owns 15,000 ha and has access to up to 45,000 ha across neighbouring farms, free roaming and partially fenced, with the Omatako peak as the landmark you navigate by. You track and stalk with your guide, rifle or bow; hides at waterholes can be arranged for bow hunters, and rifle rental with ammunition is available on request. Twenty-one plains game species are hunted, from steenbok and springbok to kudu, eland, giraffe, sable and nyala. Lechwe, nyala, sable, waterbuck and black-faced impala are taken on a neighbouring property where Okangawa holds sole hunting rights. Three predators, brown hyena, cheetah and leopard, are hunted under permit conditions. Game is counted every season, and management animals, older or non-trophy animals, are set off that count at a lower fee: the same hunt for less. A day here starts before sunrise, breaks at midday, and ends with the chef cooking the day's game and stories around the fire under the stars. The season runs 1 February to 30 November. THE CAMP One party at a time means the house is yours: four en-suite double rooms for up to eight guests, full board, and an in-house chef whose menu often features the game taken during your hunt. Non-hunters are welcome, with a swimming pool, bird watching and quiet time on the farm, and rest days can be added for the whole party. Laundry is included, so pack light: good boots, quiet clothes in muted colours and layers for the cold mornings. Okangawa is 222 km by road from Hosea Kutako International Airport near Windhoek, about two and a half hours; a return transfer is quoted at EUR 450. Skinning, field preparation and delivery of your trophies to a taxidermist in Namibia are included in the daily rate. DAILY RATES Daily rate EUR 330 per hunter per day with your own guide (1x1), EUR 275 per hunter per day sharing a guide (2x1); arrival and departure days EUR 140; observers EUR 140 per day; return airport transfer from Windhoek EUR 450; rifle rental with ammunition on request. The US dollar figures on this listing are Okangawa's own guide conversions at EUR 1 = USD 1.16, and the euro prices are the ones on your invoice. Season 1 February to 30 November; the 2027 and 2028 rates are the same. A deposit of 50% of the daily-rate total secures your dates; the balance and trophy fees are paid before or at the end of the hunt, by EFT or cash in EUR, USD or NAD. Included in the daily rate: full board, skinning and field preparation, delivery of trophies to the taxidermist, laundry, and baboon and jackal at no trophy fee. Not included: gratuities, trophy handling from the taxidermist onward, packaging and freight, and skinning a jackal or baboon as a kept trophy (EUR 100). Management animals, older or non-trophy animals selected off the annual game count, come at lower fees: springbok and warthog EUR 220, oryx and red hartebeest EUR 275, eland EUR 550, Hartmann's mountain zebra EUR 825, giraffe EUR 1,100. Predators under permit: brown hyena EUR 2,200, cheetah EUR 6,600, leopard on request.

Werner is the real thing. We walked 12km on day 3 before he was satisfied with the Buffalo we'd spotted — he turned down two shooter-quality bulls because the approach wasn't right. Then on the fourth day, we had a textbook stalk from 180 metres down to 40. The shot placement was exactly what he'd briefed me on. I've hunted 6 countries — this is the best-run operation I've been to. Camp food alone was worth the trip.

James, thank you — that Buffalo stalk is one Werner still talks about. We hope to see you back in 2025. The Sable population has been exceptional this year.

My first hunt in Africa. Werner clearly understood I was nervous and never made me feel pressured. He spent the entire first afternoon on the range, not just checking zero but understanding how I shoot under pressure. The Nyala we took on day 5 was a mature bull — Werner had been watching it for three seasons. One shot, one animal. Exactly what I wanted. The Safari Hunts escrow system removed all my hesitation about booking — I would not have been comfortable paying upfront without that protection.

Excellent hunt. Werner is outstanding. Kudu we took was exceptional — 55-inch bull. I'm dropping one point on lodge only because the WiFi was down for two days mid-hunt and I needed it for work. Not Werner's fault, just noting it. The food, the bush, the tracking — all world class. Will return for the Sable programme.

Thornridge responds
Rudi — the WiFi issue was a Starlink outage during that storm system. We've since installed a backup router. That Kudu is one of the best bulls Werner has seen in 22 years. We'll see you for Sable.
