meets world-class hunting

Real Hunting. Real Africa. Waidmannsheil Safaris is an owner-run hunting outfit founded in 2014 by Gerhard Vermaak — professional hunter, SCI member, and your single point of contact from first enquiry to the salt shed. Home camp sits in the Rust de Winter area on the Gauteng–Limpopo border — classic bushveld within easy reach of O.R. Tambo International Airport — and hunts are conducted on carefully selected grounds right across South Africa, matched to the species you are after. THE CAMP One group in camp at a time — the lodge is yours exclusively. Five en-suite rooms host up to four hunters plus observers, with all meals, snacks, soft drinks and daily laundry included. Families and non-hunting companions are welcome, with observer rates and activities arranged. THE HUNTING Rifle and bow hunting, guided personally by Gerhard — fair-chase throughout. Classic plains game (kudu, gemsbok, blue and black wildebeest, blesbok, impala, zebra, nyala, eland, waterbuck, red hartebeest, bushbuck, warthog and more) and Cape buffalo for those ready for dangerous game. DAILY RATES US$500 per hunter per day · US$250 per observer per day. Rates cover accommodation, meals, licensed PH, hunting vehicle and fuel, trackers and field staff, field trophy preparation and daily laundry. Not included: international flights, firearm permits (guidance provided), taxidermy and shipping, travel insurance, gratuities and alcoholic beverages. TROPHY FEES — INDICATIVE, QUOTED PERSONALLY The trophy fees shown against each species are platform guide prices to help you plan and build a hunt — indicative only. Individual species remain subject to availability, quota and trophy category, so every hunt is confirmed with a written personal quotation from Gerhard before anything is booked. ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGES Three approved 12-day safaris (10 full hunting days) from US$7,700 all-in — see the packages below, or build a custom safari around the species you want. Airport meet-and-greet and return transfers from O.R. Tambo are included on every package.

Werner is the real thing. We walked 12km on day 3 before he was satisfied with the Buffalo we'd spotted — he turned down two shooter-quality bulls because the approach wasn't right. Then on the fourth day, we had a textbook stalk from 180 metres down to 40. The shot placement was exactly what he'd briefed me on. I've hunted 6 countries — this is the best-run operation I've been to. Camp food alone was worth the trip.

Thornridge responds
James, thank you — that Buffalo stalk is one Werner still talks about. We hope to see you back in 2025. The Sable population has been exceptional this year.

My first hunt in Africa. Werner clearly understood I was nervous and never made me feel pressured. He spent the entire first afternoon on the range, not just checking zero but understanding how I shoot under pressure. The Nyala we took on day 5 was a mature bull — Werner had been watching it for three seasons. One shot, one animal. Exactly what I wanted. The Safari Hunts escrow system removed all my hesitation about booking — I would not have been comfortable paying upfront without that protection.

Excellent hunt. Werner is outstanding. Kudu we took was exceptional — 55-inch bull. I'm dropping one point on lodge only because the WiFi was down for two days mid-hunt and I needed it for work. Not Werner's fault, just noting it. The food, the bush, the tracking — all world class. Will return for the Sable programme.

Thornridge responds
Rudi — the WiFi issue was a Starlink outage during that storm system. We've since installed a backup router. That Kudu is one of the best bulls Werner has seen in 22 years. We'll see you for Sable.
