A big Nile crocodile is a fifteen-foot ambush predator with sixty million years of practice, and hunting one is the most exacting rifle shot in Africa: a golf-ball-sized brain, an animal lying inches from water, and no margin at all — a reflex slide takes the trophy into the river forever. Crocs are glassed on basking banks, approached behind cover to inside 80 metres, and taken with surgical precision or not at all.
Length and girth: a 12-foot croc is fine, 14-plus exceptional. Judge against known bank features; old crocs show massive heads and dark, gnarled armour.
Blind or belly-crawl approaches to basking banks; flat-shooting .300+ with match-grade bullets for the brain/neck anchor. Winter basking hours are prime.
