No animal in Africa carries more weight — biological, emotional, or regulatory — than a lion. A legitimate wild-managed lion hunt is a tracking hunt of the old school: reading pug marks at dawn, sorting a heavy-maned tom from females, and closing on foot with everything your PH has taught you. It is also the most heavily regulated hunt on the continent, and Safari Hunts lists lion only from operators whose permits and quotas stand up to scrutiny.
Age is everything, ethically and legally: a huntable tom is 6+ years — nose pigmentation gone black-freckled to black, full mane (habitat permitting), worn teeth. Your PH's age-call is the trophy decision.
Tracking or baiting per regional regulation, always with a DG-qualified PH; .375 H&H legal minimum, heavier preferred. Dry season for trackable ground.
