A zebra stallion is one of Africa's most surprising stalks: herd sentries rotate, eyes never all point the same way, and that dazzle of stripes makes picking your animal — and your aiming point — genuinely hard. The flat-skin rug or mounted hide is one of safari hunting's most recognisable trophies, and zebra fees fund a surprising amount of plains-game conservation on private land.
There are no horns to score: you are selecting a mature stallion — heavier neck, broader stripes, often carrying old bite scars. Your PH's call matters; the trophy is the hide, so a clean shoulder shot protects it.
Walk-and-stalk into mixed herds at 100–250 m. Zebra are big-bodied and famously tough: .30-06 with 200-grain bullets is a floor, .300 magnum better. Year-round hunting, best in the dry months.
